> Announcements from MST Services and MST Institute

Lisa Reiter-Lavery, PhD
Lisa Reiter-Lavery, PhD has been promoted to clinical director for MST Services. Lisa has been an associate with MST Services since 2000. In her time at MST Services, she has served as a consultant, then a manager of network partnerships. Prior to joining MST Services, she worked at Duke Medical Center in North Carolina on research projects related to aggression in youth, conducted family therapy, supervised trainees, then became an MST supervisor. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America in 1996.

Bernie Centeio, Ellen Shifko and Brenda Szumski each joined MST Services as managers of network partnerships on January 1, 2007. Michelle Dean (also pictured below) joined MST Services as a manager of network partnerships on November 1, 2006.

(L to R - Brenda Szumski, Michelle Dean, Ellen Shifko, Bernie Centeio)

Brenda K. Szumski, MSW, LCSW began her involvement with MST in 1999 as a supervisor. In October 2000, she became a system supervisor and continued in that role until January 2007 when she joined MST Services as a manager of network partnerships. She earned a bachelor degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree in social work from the University of Denver. In her life before MST, Brenda worked in a variety of settings including recreational camping, residential treatment, schools, and community-based organizations. She is married and has two sons, enjoys travel, home improvement and crafts.

Ellen Shifko, MSEd, completed her undergraduate and graduate work at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. She has been working with at-risk adolescents since 1986 in case management and BHRS systems, as well as in public and private schools. She began working for Adelphoi Village in Latrobe, Pennsylvania as a therapist in the newly started MST program in March 1999. She became Adelphoi Village's first system supervisor in November 2000, where she remained until she joined MST Services in January 2007. She was an instructor at California University of Pennsylvania and was the recipient of the first MST Whatever It Takes Award for MST Expert in 2006. Ellen lives in Jeannette, Pennsylvania with her husband Bill and her wonderful daughter, Carlee. She loves to sing and play music with her family and friends.

Bernie Centeio, MSW, received her undergraduate degrees in English literature and sociology and her graduate degree in social work from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Between academic endeavors, she impressed ESL students in Japan with her dexterous use of chopsticks. Bernie's social work career has included clinical work in juvenile and adult corrections, rural health settings, and an avoidance of air-conditioned offices. Trained in MST in 2000, Bernie has been a devoted acolyte ever since, and joined MST Services in January 2007 as manager of network partnerships. When she's not working, Bernie enjoys her life on the Big Island of Hawaii with her husband and son, looking for whales, dancing hula, or finding a patch of sun to soak up.

Upgrades have also been made to the MSTI Enhanced Web site. These include:

  • New username and password system
  • E-mail addresses are now required for all users
  • Basic demographic data for youth and therapists added
  • Three new items on the Program Review Form

These changes will be reviewed in MSTI's free Web site training "webinars" on the topics, "Basic Training" and "Managing Website Users." Registration is limited to 15 connections and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Go to http://mstconference.com/website_training/ to sign up. Access to the Internet and a telephone connection are required to participate.

The revised TAM, aka the TAM-R, is targeted for implementation on the MSTI Web site in March 2007.

A project to translate the new items on the TAM-R is currently underway. For more information about this project, please contact Jan Critchlow at 925-247-0700 or jan.critchlow@mstservices.com.

New MSTI Call Center vendor: MSTI has selected a new data collection services vendor, Pioneer Marketing. It is anticipated that they will begin conducting interviews in March. The change in vendor will allow MSTI to reduce its rate for TAM interviews from $35.00 per enrolled family per month to $20.00 per enrolled family per month.
