2008 Blueprints Pre-conference Workshop Descriptions
March 17, 2008

Monday morning (8:30 - 11:45)

Increasing MST Therapist Skills in Family Therapy (Henggeler / Brunk)
This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to understand the MST perspective on strategies to change family functioning. Videotapes of family sessions will be reviewed with Dr. Henggeler providing commentary. MST Experts are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this training opportunity.

Systems Change Agent Roundtable (Strother / Swenson)
This roundtable will provide opportunities for discussion among MST experts and Program Directors about the role they play as change agents within systems. This session will be a continuation (and not a repetition) of the Network Partner workshop session with a similar title. A primary focus of this session will be how to manage the dynamics within systems when system stakeholders ask for shift(s) in practices in ways that are not consistent with MST or would be considered drift from the model (e.g. target population drift, workforce related issues, etc.).

Monday afternoon (1:30 - 4:45)

Using the PIR as a Program Level Intervention (Dean / Szumski / Strother)
This workshop is designed for Experts and Program Developers / Directors to address strategies for using the PIR as a program level intervention. Participants are encouraged to maximize their growth opportunities by bringing a current PIR that includes a "tricky" organizational-level challenge! This workshop will include examples as well as opportunities to share experiences with colleagues.

Behavior Sequencing in Assessment AND Intervention (Boggs / Centeio)
Many MST therapists and supervisors continue to struggle when designing interventions to change negative interactions among family members - often relying on a "time-out" to interrupt the sequence. Attendees at this workshop will be given the opportunity to hone skills for assessing negative sequences. Opportunities for designing detailed interventions will also be provided.

'Just Say Yes' to the Updated Substance Abuse Booster for Youth (Duffy / Shifko)
This workshop is designed for MST Experts to introduce them to the revised booster training targeting youth substance abuse. Participants will be given the opportunity to practice portions of the presentation in small groups and to develop their MST knowledge-base in the area of substance abuse treatment. There will also be an opportunity to share and address concerns or challenges that have arisen when training clinicians and supervisors in this clinical domain.
